I love Vicuña blankets

Vicuña blankets are made from the finest, most expensive natural fiber in the world which is Vicuña fiber. The Vicuña fiber is way finer than any other wool, consisting of 12 microns, compared to cashmere which has about 17 microns. However, the Vicuña fiber is sensitive to chemical treatment compared to wools, so if ever you find a Vicuña blanket in any other color other than it’s natural golden brown, chances are it’s not pure or very little Vicuña fiber was used to produce it.

Vicuña blankets and other products are very expensive in that Vicuña is considered sacred animals, and in the past, only Inca royalty was allowed to wear Vicuña fiber-made blankets and coats. Imagine, Vicuña blankets and coats has previously been allowed to be used only by royalty, and now they are already available in the market, although still controlled by the number.

Today, Vicuña blankets are very rare and expensive also because Vicuña are sheared for their fiber only once every two to four years, making the animals very sought-after.

I do love Vicuña blankets for their softness and exquisite feel, but it’s extremely expensive and owning one would mean scouting South America for authentic and pure Vicuña blankets. So if ever you decide to buy Vicuña blankets, make sure you’re getting the real thing.
